Nature Explorers Day Camps

Days of Wonder in the Great Outdoors!

What’s more idyllic than childhood days spent exploring the forests, meadows and waters of our Green Mountain home? BEEC Nature Explorers are lucky enough to do just that! Our campers spend the majority of each day outside on our 60 wild acres in small groups participating in hands-on activities, non-competitive games, stories, art projects, music, free play, and sledding or water-sliding.

Year after year children return, anticipating fun times and excited to visit special places such as Grandmother Tree, Mossy Rocks, and Frog Pond. They investigate the lives of their wild neighbors, learn naturalist skills, explore wildlife habitats, develop sensory awareness skills, venture off-trail, and discover a sense of magic and wonder in the Great Outdoors!

State Subsidies Now Offered!

Exciting news! We have acquired Vermont state licensure and we are now accepting CCFAP, so eligible families can access the state childcare subsidy. We will no longer offer a discount on camp fees, but in-house financial assistance is still an option for families who don’t qualify for CCFAP. Members will still have priority registration on our sell-out camps.

Nature Days

Camp Information & Policies

A camp group is for the ages listed, and other ages can join with permission. Each week there will be two groups of children. Each group will have 2 camp staff, with up to 10 children in the younger group and 12 children in the older group.

Registration is by the week, and each week has a theme guiding activities. When both age groups have the same theme they will experience different variations; as the campers grow, the activities grow with them. See last year's theme descriptions here.

Aftercare is offered each week (Mon-Thu) for one group of 12, mixed-aged children.

If a camp group fills, the Summer Schedule will be updated to state “waitlist” next to a full group. You are welcome to sign up for the waitlist, as changes do happen.

2025 Summer Camp Themes

Creep, Crawl, and Leap: Blending imagination and discovery, we discovered and became creatures that could creep, crawl and leap, including arthropods, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, centaurs, unicorns, and more.

Flit, Flutter, and Fly: Blending imagination and discovery, we discovered and became creatures that could flit, flutter and fly, including insects, birds, bats, fairies, dragons and more.

Amazing Animals: Each day we learned about a new facet of the natural world, phenomenal plants, incredible insects, beautiful birds, amazing amphibians, and mysterious mammals.

Wild Wanderings: Each day visited a different habitat of Heifer Hill, and discovered life in a pond, a vernal pool, the meadows, the forest, and the relationships within our local ecosystems.

Magical World of Nature: Venturing through fields and woodlands in search of nature’s mysteries, magical places, and mystical creatures, together we found and created the magical world around us.

Creative by Nature: We explored nature with art, music, and theater. The forests and fields were our canvas as we look to the landscape and its inhabitants for inspiration to be wildly creative together.

Nature Heroes: We became Nature Heroes by exploring the fascinating connections between plants and animals and learning how to take care of their habitats. Through activities, nature crafts, community science, and an onsite conservation project, we discovered how we can make a difference and help nature thrive.

Adventures of Poppy: We discovered the world of mice, porcupines and owls. We found mouse homes and built our own, dissected owl pellets, tasted porcupines’ favorite foods, and played predator-prey games… This camp was inspired by the book Poppy, by Avi, as we bring the story to life on whimsical adventures.

Bonnyvale Detectives: We journeyed to find the hidden stories of life at BEEC from past to present. Those who came before us inspired our activities and saunterings. We discovered the ancient bedrock that feeds our wild edibles, and found clues from dwellers past, practiced fire skills and built shelters, to add our own stories to the land.

No prior camera experience needed. Cameras will be provided by In-Sight.

Hear what families say about BEEC’s youth camps:

“The staff are so knowledgeable, the forest and trails are lovely, the stories and norms set feel appropriate and fun, the games are fun and educational, children are seen and heard in the programs, there is good communication between staff and families, children know their teachers well and get to explore some really cool topics (tree ID, tracking, animal information, bird calls) over the course of the time.”
“BEEC understands that children thrive in nature and that this can especially be true for children who do not thrive at school. The programming is developmentally appropriate and honors children as people.”
"My son has had such an incredible experience at camp this week – he’s never willingly shared so much about his day before and tells us he will be a naturalist when he gets older. Huge thanks to your team!"
"I love that BEEC programs are creative, fun, lots of outdoor time, great staff & good vibes! After summer camp this year, my daughter said that she wants to do BEEC camp all year long! She had an awesome time."
"My child loves it. I was showered with stories all week and for the following days of the adventures at camp and all to be learned. It is, by far, the favorite of any camp my child has ever attended."
“Very warm and positive staff, a good variety of activity types, fun ways of sharing and engaging curiosity in naturalist knowledge, accessible for low income families, and the land itself!”
“Our child really appreciates having the opportunity to run around, get dirty, play with bugs and fossils, slam rocks, and be in a different kind of environment than his usual school structure. He enjoys playing with different kids than those he meets at school and usually connects with one or more of the excellent counselors so that he feels safe in his explorations. For us as parents, it's a joy to be invited by our child to go on a hike to visit Old Mother Maple or explore the bugs in the Meadow. BEEC is truly a gift to the community, and to our family.”
“Our two children (each extremely different personalities and learners) both had an incredible three weeks at BEEC. The staff was accepting and supportive and both thrived. We still often use some of the reflection techniques in our daily lives now!”
“My child's experiences at BEEC camps have been nothing other than fabulous! We've spent a lot of time on the trails there as a family, so for her to be able to engage with knowledgeable staff and mentors about the land and its inhabitants, while getting social and physical health needs met as well, has been incredibly meaningful. She has learned so much, and feels such a sense of home and kinship there. This would not have been possible without scholarships, and we are just so thankful that BEEC is committed to doing this work, and making it accessible to as many children as possible!”
“For my child, time in the outdoors is an antidote to stress, it expands his curiosity and makes him more comfortable in his own skin without constant need for "things" to occupy his time. I also think it helps him develop coping skills for things he can't control, and in the long run, this is a very positive asset in his life.“
“We are parenting a child who struggles greatly in school with behavior regulation and has spent limited time outside, let alone in the woods. We wanted them to have a safe place to experience a full day outside to play and explore. BEEC was the perfect thing. We had never seen this child so content and cheerful when picking them up at the end of the day as we did when collecting them from BEEC.”
